Gekko is based on Henry Kravis, the defining figure behind KKR, Michael Douglas accompanied Kravis for a while and is supposedly still friends.

In his actions, Gekko is more like a Carl Icahn.

Here the TE:
I know it's just a movie: it's just a little mind game:
How do you think Gordon Gekko got so big as an investor?
And do you think he had a fund to support (money) or was it just his own money?

If you are always successful with your investments, you can regularly borrow the additional equity gained in this way and thus continuously enlarge your portfolio or fund.

Gekko is based on Boesky and Icahn. Even the lecture on greed is linked to a speech by Boesky. Otherwise, the high-yield inventor was still a role model.

It's the first time I've heard about Henry Kravis. Would rather say that Kravis is compared to Gekko and is not considered his template.

Success is a complex thing, for a complexity reduction I would break it down to the following points for a type "Gordon Gekko":

  • Hardliners in speculative transactions (buy cheap, sell high) accompanied by the "right nose"
  • Switching off the moral component in relation to (ethical) issues
  • Acting in the business gray area
  • Very high perception
  • Well-founded industry knowledge

It all seems trivial, of course. But while 1st and 5th are possible with practice and diligence, the other points are very difficult for most people. Well, 5. you cannot influence when in doubt, but 2. and 3. in particular prevent most people from climbing. Anyone who can accumulate a high two-three-digit million amount in capital on their own has rarely "earned" it. For this you have to have concluded a lot of very lucrative deals and that is almost impossible without sacrifices.

Anyone who invested any amount in Amazon shares 15 years ago has almost a hundredfold their stake and has this profit - old regulation with a speculation period of one year - tax-free.

This also worked with Apple, Netflix, Booking Holdings, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Tencent, Sartorius, Nemetschek - and these are only those that come to my mind right now :-)

That's not true. Gordon Gekko is based on Ivan Boesky

Ivan Boesky just doesn't know the millennial anymore.

Neither Dany Dattel nor Ivan Herstatt. Even with Count Krokow and Josef Esch it is running out, and their role models Count Galen and Horst-Dieter, who is also called "Esch", do not ring the bell, and there is no documentary on Netflix.

I would pay very, very good money for a Netflix series about the Herstatt bankruptcy. A foxy golden boy, a steamy banking aristocrat, Cologne chiceria, Bolivian snow en masse, trainees with Porsches - what the hell does the German television audience want more ???
