Asin Thottumkal (Malayalam അസിൻ തോട്ടുങ്കൽ; born October 26, 1985 in Kochi), known as Asin (Tamil: அசின்), is an Indian film actress, model and stage performer.

Life


Asin was born in Kochi, Kerala. Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha[1], managed several companies before managing his daughter's career. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon and lived with her daughter in Mumbai.

She made her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Malayalam film Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001). Asin had her first commercial success in 2003 Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, and won a South Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the Film.

After a series of films, she received her second Filmfare Award South for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil filmGhajini (2005). She then played the lead female role in the action comedy Varalaru (2006). In 2008, Asin made her debut in Hindi films Ghajini, the remake of the Tamil film, for which she subsequently won the Filmfare Award / Best Debut.
