In the classic game mode of the strategic first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), two teams of 5 players each compete as terrorists and anti-terrorists. In contrast to most other shooters, a player who died in a battle cannot get back into the game right away. If you get done, you can only support your team again in the next round of a competition. In two different possible game scenarios, the teams receive different missions:

  • Bomb disposal: The terrorist team tries to place a bomb in one of the predetermined zones and to guard it long enough until the timer ignites. The aim of the anti-terrorists is to eliminate the terrorist team before they can plant their bomb or prevent the detonation by defusing the bomb.
  • Hostage rescue: Two immobile hostages sit on the terrorists' side, and the anti-terrorist team must rescue at least one of the hostages and carry them to the hostage rescue zone. Hostage players cannot fire and move more slowly. If an anti-terrorist is eliminated during a rescue operation, the terrorists can carry the hostage back to its starting position. A victory is also possible if the respective opposing team is completely eliminated.

A special feature of CS: GO is the steep learning curve compared to other first-person shooters. The large number of tactical game positions of the various maps, grenades and weapons, all of which have a different spread when firing, makes the shooter extremely demanding and even challenges experienced players.
With a total of 13,029 professional players, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently the most popular eSports game.
