Obituaries: West Amwell resident Joseph Insertra dies at 89

WEST AMWELL TWP. —Joseph A. Insertra died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011 at his home. Hey what 89.

Born and raised in New York City, a son of Alfonso and Annunziata Insra, he graduated with honors in accounting from Alexander Hamilton High School in Manhattan. He served in the Army Co "F" 18th Infantry, "The Big One," participating in the Rhineland campaign. Joe was wounded in Germany and was awarded a Purple Heart.

Joe moved to West Amwell Township in 1959 and worked for Hose-McCann Telephone Co. in Englewood for over 45 years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 for 65 years, serving as a shop steward and foreman. Joe was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lambertville.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Gaspari Insra; two daughters, Nancy Cohen and her husband Richard of Colts Neck and Anna Kuchinski and her husband Joe of Bloomsbury; one son, Alponse Insra of Burlington Township; two sisters, Angelina Valenti of Ballston Spa, N.Y. and Grace Benanti of East Northport, N.Y .; his grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Cohen, Isabella Whittaker-Insra and Sophia Whittaker Insra; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Aug. 15, 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Lambertville with burial followed in the parish cemetery. Calling hours Sunday, 2-4 p.m. at the Garefino Funeral Home, 12 N. Franklin St., (Route 179) Lambertville.
