How to Copy and Paste on Facebook

Not only can you share your posts on Facebook, you can share those of other people as well. But sometimes this option may not be available. This is where copy and paste come in. This article is a guide to copying and pasting on Facebook.

Why copy and paste:

  • The Share Now button is much faster and less cumbersome than copying and pasting. Then why not just share it directly? Here are some reasons to copy and paste:
  • If you share a post from your friend and they have set the post's privacy to “Friends” only, only their friends, including you, can see the post. So the visibility of your post would only be limited to you and your friend's mutual friends. And sometimes you want to share it with a wider audience, so "sharing" alone would not be enough in this case. Worse, your friend may have the Share option turned off altogether. So in this case, copying and pasting is warranted, especially if you think the content of the post is quite important. You can also # copy-paste in the editor if you'd like to let people know that it's not an original post.
  • Sometimes there are emergencies like someone reporting domestic abuse, as it happens on Facebook. In this case, you want the message to reach out to as many people as possible before the original post is possibly deleted. When that happens, all the shared posts also disappear. So, knowinghow to copy-paste on Facebookmight come in handy.

But be careful, as this could also serve as a breeding ground for scammers and fake news. Think before pasting a copy, and don't blindly trust other copied information.

If you want to copy and paste something on Facebook while using the application, here's how to do it.

  1. Log into your Facebook account by entering your email address and password.
  2. Go to the post you want to copy. If it's in your news feed, you've already landed there. Long press the status or comment (whatever text you want to copy). An option to copy will appear. Press it and the text will be copied to your device's internal clipboard. When you get to where you want to paste the copied text, just long press the box for the text and the paste option should pop up. Press it and your text is copied!
  3. If there's a specific place you'd like to copy it to, such as your Facebook status, repeat the same copy and paste process. When you're on the Facebook homepage, which would be your news feed if you're logged in, a text box will appear at the top of the page asking, What is on your mind? This is your status bar where you enter your status, text or the media, how you are or what's going on with your day. If you want to paste your copied text there, just tap that text box and the paste option should pop up. Select this option and the text will be copied. Select “post” and your status will be posted on your timeline. It would also appear on your friends' news feeds and anyone else who follows you or your friends.

This is how copying and pasting works in the Facebook app. It's pretty easy as hopefully you found it that way too.

If the post you want to copy isn't in your new feed, such as a friend's older post or in a group or page, you can go there instead. You can do this by tapping the search bar at the top of the page. When you tap on it, you'll enter the text for the point you want it to lead up to. A friend's name, and it appears in the suggestions above. Select him and he will guide you to his profile. You can scroll down until you find the post you want or a specific comment on a post. Then repeat copying and pasting as described above.
