Telecommunications companies, with the support of their respective governments, plan to introduce the fifth generation of wireless networks (5G) worldwide within the next two years. It can be assumed that this will result in unprecedented social changes on a global scale. "Smart" apartments, "smart" companies, "smart" highways, "smart" cities and self-driving cars will be part of everyday life. Almost all of the things we buy should be equipped with antennas and microchips and connected to the internet, from refrigerators and washing machines to cartons of milk, hairbrushes and baby diapers. 5G should give everyone access to ultra-fast wireless Internet with short loading times anywhere on the planet, even in rainforests, in the middle of the oceans and in Antarctica.

What is largely not perceived is that the use of 5G will result in unprecedented global consequences for the environment. The distribution density of radio frequency transmitters planned for the future is hardly imaginable. In addition to the construction of millions of new 5G base stations on earth and the transmission of 20,000 new space satellites, it is estimated that by 2020 around 200 billion objects capable of transmission and a few years later even one billion objects capable of transmission will be made with the

This applies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with field strengths of RF radiation that are ten to a hundred times higher than today, and there is no way of escaping these electromagnetic influences anywhere on the planet. In accordance with ethical laws and international conventions, immediate action must be taken to protect humanity and the environment. 5G will result in a massive increase in high-frequency radiation that no one can avoid.

5G on earth

To carry the enormous amounts of data required for the Internet of Things, once fully implemented, 5G technology will use extremely short wavelengths (millimeter waves) that are difficult to penetrate solids. For this reason it will be necessary to have base stations in every urban area

Install at 100 meter intervals. Unlike previous generations of wireless technology, where a single antenna broadcast over a large area, 5G base stations and 5G devices will have multiple antennas arranged as phased array antennas and bundled, steerable, laser-like antennas Send out rays.

5G in space

At least five companies intend to send 5G from space using 20,000 satellites in low and medium earth orbits, which would cover the entire earth with powerful, focused, steerable beams. Each satellite will send extremely short-wave waves (millimeter waves) with an effective radiation power of up to 5 million watts with the help of thousands of antennas arranged as a phased array. Although the radiation energy actually hitting the ground from these satellites is less than that from the ground antennas, the satellites will also irradiate all those areas of the earth that cannot be reached by the other transmitters. Furthermore, this radiant energy will be present in addition to the radiations from billions of Internet Of Things objects on the ground. More importantly, the satellites are located in the Earth's magnetosphere (the Earth's magnetic field) and thereby have a significant impact on the natural electricity of the atmosphere. The harmful effects of radio frequency (RF) radiation have already been proven. Even before 5G was developed, dozens of petitions and appeals by international scientists, including the Freiburg appeal signed by more than 3,000 doctors, called for the further expansion of wireless technologies and new base stations to stop.

In 2015, 215 scientists from 41 countries shared their alarming concerns with the United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO). In it they stated unequivocally: "Numerous current scientific publications have shown that electromagnetic fields already affect living organisms at values ​​that are far below most international and national guidelines". More than 10,000 expert verified scientific studies show that electromagnetic radiation is harmful to human health.

Recent research, including recent studies on the correlation between cell phone use and the risk of brain cancer, suggests that radio frequency (RF) radiation has been shown to be carcinogenic in humans50. For this reason, radio frequency radiation (HF) should be classified as a category 1 carcinogen, as has already been done for tobacco smoke and asbestos.
Most of the wireless transmission technologies used today are pulse-modulated. Damage to health is caused by both the high-frequency carrier wave and the low-frequency pulsing. 51

The use of 5G satellites must be prohibited

The earth, the ionosphere and the lower atmosphere make up the system of natural electricity52 in which we live. It is well known that the biological rhythms of humans 53, 54, birds 55, hamsters 56 and spiders 57, 58 are controlled by the natural electromagnetic environment and that the well-being of all organisms depends on the stability of this environment. This also includes the electrical properties of the atmosphere 59, 60, 61, 62. In a seminal publication, Cherry, 63 dealt with the importance of the Schumann resonance 64 and the question of why ionospheric disturbances cause changes in high blood pressure and melatonin and, as a consequence, cancer , Reproductive disorders, cardiac and neurological diseases, and death.

The electromagnetic environment of the earth has already been changed by the high-voltage lines. Harmonics from power lines 65 reach the earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere, where they are amplified by wave-particle interactions. 66.67.

In 1985, Dr. Robert O. Becker that the harmonics caused by power lines have already changed the structure of the magnetosphere and that the further expansion of this effect threatens the viability of all living things on earth. 68 The use of tens of thousands of satellites in the ionosphere and magnetosphere, which emit modulated signals with millions of watts of power and in millions of different frequencies, is likely to change our electromagnetic environment beyond our adaptability. 69

Informal observations have already provided evidence suggesting that the 100 or so satellites that have provided 2G and 3G phone services from low earth orbit since 1998 have had serious effects on humans and animals. Such effects cannot be explained solely by the comparatively low radiation doses that hit the ground. Findings from other relevant scientific disciplines must be taken into account in the explanation, such as the areas of atmospheric physics and acupuncture. 70,71,72,73 An extension of 20,000 5G satellites will additionally pollute the global system of natural electricity74,75 and could even change the Schumann resonance76, in whose influence all life on earth has developed. The effects of this would be very extensive and could result in profound damage.

5G is to be assessed qualitatively and quantitatively differently than 4G

The idea that we could tolerate a radiation dose ten to one hundred times higher than today at extremely short wavelengths without negative effects is based on a completely flawed model of the human body as a bowl filled with a homogeneous liquid. 77, 78 The assumption that millimeter waves (waves with extremely short wavelengths) cannot penetrate the skin ignores the fact that nerves 79, blood vessels80,81 and other electrically conductive or conductive structures can carry radiation-induced currents deep into the body. 82, 83, 84 Another, possibly more serious, misconception is that phased arrays are not ordinary antennas. When an ordinary electromagnetic field enters the body, it causes charges to move and electrical currents to flow. But when extremely short electromagnetic impulses penetrate the body, something else happens: the moving charges themselves become small antennas that also emit the electromagnetic field and send it deeper into the body. These repetitive, transmitted waves are called Brillouin precursors. 85 These become significant when either the power or the phase of the waves changes quickly enough. 86 5G technology is likely to meet both criteria.

Furthermore, the superficial penetration of radiation harbors a threat to the eyes, to the skin as the largest organ in the body, and to very small living beings. Current studies verified by experts predict thermal skin burns 87 in humans from 5G radiation. For insects that absorb radiation doses up to 100 times higher than the currently used wavelengths at millimeter waves (waves with extremely short wavelengths), these studies predict resonant absorption 88. Given that flying insect populations have declined by 75 to 80 percent since 1989, even in protected natural areas89, 5G radiation could have catastrophic effects on insect populations worldwide. A 1986 study by Om Gandhi warns that millimeter waves are very strongly absorbed by the cornea of ​​the eye and that ordinary clothing that is millimeter thick increases the absorption of energy by the skin due to resonance-like effects.90 Russell summarized in 2018 that known effects of millimeter waves on the skin, eyes (including lens opacity), heart rate, immune system, and DNA combined.

Regulatory authorities have deliberately hidden the scientific evidence of damage to health.

While the stakeholders in the development of 5G have traditionally been industry and governments, thousands of expert-verified studies by renowned international scientists who have studied and documented the biological effects on humans, animals, insects and plants have not been considered. The reason for the currently completely inadequate safety guidelines is that there are conflicts of interest in the bodies drafting the standards, "because of their relationships with telecommunications or electricity companies that undermine the impartiality required for the development of standards for exposure to non-ionizing radiation should be decisive ". 91 Professor Emeritus Martin L. Pall explains these conflicts of interest in detail in his literature review92 and offers an overview of important studies that were not taken into account in the development phase of 5G.

The hypothesis of purely thermal effects is out of date, new safety standards are necessary.

Current safety guidelines are based on the outdated hypothesis that the warming of a body (temperature rise) is the only harmful effect of electromagnetic radiation. Markov and Grigoriev, on the contrary, state, "Today's standards do not take into account actual environmental pollution from non-ionizing radiation." 93 Hundreds of scientists, including many of the signatories to this appeal, have shown that many different types of acute and chronic diseases can also without the effect caused by warming (“non-thermal effect”), namely by radiation intensities

(Field strengths) that are far below international guidelines. Biological effects occur even at energy levels close to zero. The effects that were detected at 0.02 picowatts (0.02 billionths of a watt) per square centimeter or less include an altered genetic structure in Escherichia Coli94 and in rats95, an altered brain function (EEG) in humans96, growth stimulation in bean plants97 and stimulation of ovulation (ovulation) in chickens. 98

When protecting against non-thermal effects, the duration of exposure must also be taken into account. Compared to today, 5G will expose each individual to a lot more radiation at the same time, day and night without interruption. New safety guidelines are necessary and, as a precautionary measure, these should be based on the cumulative exposure, not only on the field strength of the radiation, but also on the frequency, bandwidth, modulation, waveform, pulsing and other parameters that are relevant for the biological effects are important. Transmitting antennas must be restricted to certain publicly marked locations. In order to protect people, antennas may only be installed at an appropriate distance from homes and workplaces, and may not be left on public sidewalks. In order to protect wild animals, transmitting antennas must be strictly minimized in remote areas of the world and excluded from nature reserves. To protect all living things, commercial communications satellites must be limited in number and banned from low and medium earth orbits. Phased arrays must be banned on earth and in space.

Radio frequency radiation (RF) has both short-term and chronic effects

Radio frequency (RF) radiation has both immediate and long-term effects. Cancer and heart disease are examples of long-term effects. Changes in heart rhythm99 and brain function (EEG) 100 are examples of immediate effects. A syndrome called "Radio Wave Disease" 101 in the former Soviet Union and now known worldwide as electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) 102 can be either acute or chronic. Professor Dr. Karl Hecht has published a detailed overview of these syndromes, which was compiled from more than 1,500 papers by Russian scientists and the medical histories of more than 1,000 of his own patients in Germany. The objective findings include insomnia, abnormalities in blood pressure and heart rate, indigestion, hair loss, tinnitus, and rash. Subjective symptoms include dizziness, nausea, headache, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, and heart pain. 103

The EUROPAEM EMF Guide 2016 (EUROPAEM: European Academy for Environmental Medicine eV) states that EHS (electromagentic hypersensitivity) occurs when people are exposed to stronger electromagnetic fields “in their daily life” and that “reduction and prevention of exposure “Is necessary for the recovery of these patients.104 EHS should no longer be viewed as a disease but as an injury due to a toxic environment affecting ever larger parts of the population. The number of people suffering from EHS (electromagentic hypersensitivity) worldwide is currently estimated at 100 million105,106. In the near future, almost everyone107 could be affected if the global expansion of 5G proceeds as planned.

The Brussels International Scientific Declaration on EHS and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) stated in 2015: “Inaction means a cost to the community and is no longer an option [...] We agree that this poses a serious public health risk [. ..] and there is an urgent need for major basic preventive measures to be taken and prioritized in order to address this global pandemic in a promising manner. ”108

Governments around the world fail in their duty of care for the population

In their rush to implement 5G and promote the unrestricted use of space, the European Union, the US and national governments around the world are taking steps to ensure an “accessible” regulatory environment for it.109 They prohibit local authorities from enforcing environmental laws, 110 while “ in the interests of a quick and cost-effective introduction, unnecessary burdens […] such as municipal planning procedures [and] the variety of specific limit values ​​for electromagnetic fields (EMF) as well as the variety of methods to determine these “should be eliminated. 111

Governments are already enacting laws to legally enable the use of wireless devices on all public paths and roads. 112 To date, most wireless systems have been installed on private properties some distance from homes and businesses. The public disclosure requirements and public hearings are circumvented or avoided. International agreements are violated

Children's rights and due diligence

Health and human rights

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948): "Everyone has the right to life, freedom and security of the person." (Art. 3)

The United Nations Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescents' Health 2016-2030 pursues the goals of "transformation" (by expanding favorable environmental conditions), "survival" (by reducing maternal and newborn mortality) and "helping life to flourish" (by ensuring health and well-being and reducing deaths and diseases from pollution).

The space

The Treaty on the Principles Regulating the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (1967) stipulates that the use of outer space must be such “that its contamination is avoided and in the terrestrial environment every unfavorable change as a result of the introduction of extraterrestrial substances is prevented. ”(Art. The governments of the world are playing a game of dice with life on earth

The refusal to accept and implement important and verifiably valid scientific findings is, from an ethical point of view, unsustainable. Scientific research shows that 5G — and space-based 5G in particular — violates principles enshrined in numerous international agreements.

We appeal to the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Union (EU), the Council of Europe and the governments of all nations:

Take immediate action to stop the use of 5G on earth and in space, thereby protecting all of humanity, especially the unborn, infants, children, adolescents and pregnant women, and the environment;
To follow the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) and Council of Europe Resolution No. 1815 (Europe Resolution 1815) by informing citizens, including teachers and doctors, of the health risks (for adults and children) of radiofrequency radiation , including how to avoid wireless communication and base stations and why they should do so, especially near daycare, schools, hospitals, in their homes and at their workplaces;

Immediately and without any industrial influence, international groups of scientists with experience in EMF, health, biology and atmospheric physics should be convened to develop a comprehensive legal framework that ensures that the use of space is safe for humans and the environment, taking into account radio frequency radiation (HF), rocket exhaust gases, soot, space debris and their effects on ozone, 120 global warming, 121 the earth's atmosphere and the preservation of life on earth.
